The Kerrville Police Department's Communications Section is comprised of ten (10) full-time Telecommunications Specialists and a Communications Manager. Two Specialists are assigned to a shift and perform all communication functions for the Police Department and the Kerrville Fire/EMS Department. The Section processes approximately 30,000 communications events per year of which 24,000 are calls for Police and Fire service.
The Specialists also serve Kerr County as 911 Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) operators. All of Kerr County’s 911 calls are handled by or routed through this department. Each Specialist is an expert at multi-tasking. Taking emergency and non-emergency calls and prioritizing each to ensure our citizens are properly served.
The Communications Specialists are often the first contact callers have ever had with emergency services and thus they function as Ambassadors for the Department.
The Communication's personnel utilize Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and radio logs to ensure accurate event recordings. Each Specialist is fully trained in Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (TLETS) operations including TCIC/NCIC data entry, and is capable of utilizing Emergency Medical Dispatch protocols to aid in life saving emergencies.
Every Communications Specialist is intent on providing the best quality service to ensure the health and safety of every officer, firefighter and citizen they serve.
