The City of Kerrville is pleased to announce the appointment of David Knight as the Chief of Police. Knight has been serving as the assistant chief of police for the Kerrville Police Department for the past two years and most recently as the interim chief of police. During his nearly 20 year law enforcement career with the City of Kerrville, he has served as the field operations captain, detective – criminal investigations unit, traffic sergeant, patrol sergeant, patrol corporal and patrol officer.
“Our community is very fortunate to have an individual of David Knight’s caliber accept this appointment. Chief Knight has served the citizens of Kerrville since 1995 and has long been a shining star of the department. His promotion to this position is a result of his outstanding commitment to the community and to the field of public safety. He has been an integral part of the KPD’s management team over the last 10 years and our citizens can expect to see a forward thinking department that strives to achieve the highest levels of professionalism, efficiency, and service delivery,” stated Todd Parton, City Manager. “I congratulate Chief Knight on this well-earned promotion and am thankful for his continuing commitment to our community.”
Chief Knight received a commission as an army infantry officer in 1981, serving 14 years in the Reserve Component and Texas Army National Guard as a rifle platoon leader, company executive officer, rifle company commander, headquarters company commander, and infantry battalion staff officer.
Knight attended the University of Texas at San Antonio and is a graduate of the U.S. Army Infantry Officers Basic and Advanced courses. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy Class 243 as well as the Institute for Law Enforcement Administration 44 th Management College. Knight holds a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Master Police Officer Certification and is a member of the Texas Police Chiefs Association, the FBI National Academy Alumni Association, and the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
