The Hill Country Combined Special Operations Unit is a multi-jurisdictional tactical team comprised of four participating agencies. The Special Operations Unit was started in 1998 to peacefully resolve any high-risk incident through the use of special weapons and tactics. Some of the missions conducted are dignitary protection, high-risk warrant service, hostage situations and any other volitive threat against the community.
The unit is comprised of tactical officers, negotiators, tactical medics, a K-9 officer and a scribe. Officers participate in two training sessions per month and one week long training session per year. Members receive extensive training in special weapons tactics and physical conditioning. All members are volunteers who are on call twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
