Providing service to both City of Kerrville and Kerr County residents.
Please sort the following accepted items according to category. Example -- place items by each category separately into a used grocery bag, new plastic bag, a box or other container. This effort by you (our customer) allows us to provide an efficient and better quality of service.
Categories:
Cardboard: cereal, kleenex, pizza, soap bar boxes, paper roll and tissue inserts,
soft drink packaging, moving boxes, product shipment boxes. No waxed or plastic coated cardboard items
Newsprint: newspaper and the inserts that come with it
White paper: office paper, school notebook, and office printer paper
Mixed paper: direct mail, envelopes, or post it notes - No tissues or paper towels
Shredded paper: white paper cut up, must be placed in a plastic or brown bag
Magazines: magazines, catalogues & telephone books
Phones: cell phones with rechargeable battery and house phones
Styrofoam Shipping “Peanuts” cups, plates, egg cartons, and packing material (shipping peanuts in separate container or bag). This styrofoam must be one that is easily breakable. If comes in contact with food products must be as clean as possible. The packing material does not include those types that are spray in foam form, that usually come plastic wrapped.
*No food products or liquids for the following: Also, rinsed & drained as much as possible if needed.*
Steel/tin cans: metal can and metal lids (labels do not have to be removed)
Aluminum products: cans, foil, and pie plates
Plastics: number 1 & 2 (remove lids from bottled items)
Plastic grocery bags: number 2
Glass: - Two types
Type One - Clear, green, brown, blue, can be mixed
Type Two - Ovenware/Stovetop; Corning, Corel, Pyrex, i.e., Casserole dish and pie plates,
Kitchen ware/Household ware i.e.; drinking glasses, vases & clear ware,
Stoneware i.e.; dishes/plates that are not clear and coffee mugs.
All glass should be rinsed and have the metal lids removed as they can be placed in the steel/tin can category.
Rechargeable Batteries: These Batteries must be labeled “rechargeable” or have a recycle symbol, (usually labeled RBRC) in order to be accepted. These batteries are commonly found in cordless power tools, cellular and cordless phones, laptop computers, camcorders, remote control toys, and portable household appliances, also including small sealed lead (Pb) batteries. This does not include car or motorcycles batteries.
Ink cartridges, Laser and Copier Toner cartridges
Ink cartridges need to be in their original box or a similar one, but if neither is available, then a Ziploc bag is acceptable.
The Laser and Copier Toner cartridges must be placed in a plastic bag that is securely closed and their original box.
Tuesdays (only):
We are offering these hours for large quantities and bulky items listed.
Hours: 8 a.m. - 12 noon
and
2 p.m. - 5 p.m.
Following items only.
Cardboard: Large quantities and bigger size cardboard.
Example: moving, appliance, furniture, and auto-body shop boxes. All other cardboard and limited quantities of bigger size can be taken during regular business hours.
Scrap metal: see attached list
Electronics: Computer systems, TV’s, radios, VCR's DVD players, etc. (small quantities only, unless prior arrangements)
Items/Materials Not Allowed:
Microwaves, toaster ovens, coffee pots, electric razors, vacuum cleaners, clothing irons

SCRAP METAL RECYCLING
FOR KERR COUNTY
The Community Recycle Center will accept small amounts of scrap metal items for recycling on Tuesdays only from 8 am till 12 noon and 2 pm till 5 pm. Assistance will be provided to unload the following items. This may include and is not limited to the following:
Fencing Patio furniture Iron works Piping
Bed Frame Sheet metal Conduit Lawn edging
Vehicle rim Wiring Barbeque pit Door (metal)
Propane tanks (less than 50 lbs; with a valve that can be removed)
Lawn mowers (fluids emptied)
No one piece may weigh more than 100 pounds prior to coming on-site, unless prior arrangements are made.
THE FOLLOWING MATERIALS
WILL NOT BE ALLOWED:
- ANY CONTAINER and/or PIPING WITH CHEMICAL OR CHEMICAL RESIDUE.
- Material that may be classified as Hazardous or Toxic.
- Radioactive material or casings for Radioactive materials.
- Drums, Pails, Paint Cans or Closed Containers with chemicals or chemical residues.
- Items containing Mud (dirt), Concrete, Sludge, Free Liquids, Waste Oil or Used Oil.
- Items containing Explosive material.
- Items containing Asbestos (friable or non-friable).
- Items containing Mercury (switches, controls, etc).
- Transformers.
- Sealed Compressor Units.
- Items that may have contained Cyanide.
- Used Oil Filters.
- Fluorescent Light Ballasts.
- Electronic Equipment.
- Large tanks or vessels greater than 50-gallon capacity.
- Large glass items with metal
- Microwaves
