[ARCHIVED] Holiday Prevention Tips

It’s that most wonderful time of the year….for car burglars and thieves.

Every 2 ½ minutes, a vehicle is burglarized in Texas. During the holiday season, these crimes tend to escalate when people do not take the necessary precautions to protect personal items left in their vehicles.
We know burglars will shop the easy way by stealing your valuables, including gifts that are left in plain sight inside of vehicles. All it takes is seconds for thieves to take your valuables, your identity, and sometimes your vehicle. Don’t give thieves the opportunity to commit these crimes.
KPD Chief John M. Young Jr., wants to remind citizens to protect their valuables this busy holiday season by taking precautions which will make vehicles less of a target:
• Hide your things, Lock your vehicle, and Take your keys – Don’t make it easier for burglars to enter your vehicle.
• Park in well-lit areas – the majority of all vehicle burglaries occur at night.
• Stay alert and be aware of your surroundings – be aware of suspicious activity and call the police immediately.
Residents are encouraged to call the Kerrville Police Department’s non-emergency line 830-257-8181 immediately to report all suspicious activity (9-1-1 for EMERGENCY only).
