[ARCHIVED] Traffic Fatality

On Wednesday, February 29, 2012, at 7:03 p.m., the Kerrville Police Department received a 9-1-1 call regarding an Auto/Bicyclist Crash in the 4600 block of State Hwy 27 East. KPD officers responded along with the Kerrville Fire Department Emergency Medical Services.

A preliminary investigation shows that a bicyclist was traveling westbound on the shoulder of the highway when she was struck from behind by an unknown vehicle. The vehicle fled the scene. The bicyclist was immediately transported by EMS to Peterson Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased. The victim has been identified as Debra Zapata, age 49.

The Kerrville Police Department’s Traffic Unit along with the Criminal Investigations Unit is actively investigating suspect and vehicle leads.
