[ARCHIVED] Disturbance Ends in Death of Landlord

(June 7) The Kerrville Police Department responded to a 9-1-1 call from a resident who stated that he had just shot a man in the 2500 block of Memorial Boulevard.

At 8:30 PM on June 6, the Kerrville Police Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call from David Hanna who resides in the 2500 block of Memorial Boulevard. Hanna stated he had just shot a man. When officers arrived they found the body of 64 year old David Smith deceased.

Hanna reported he and Smith were arguing outside his apartment. A witness intervened and Hanna was able to retreat into his apartment. Smith is alleged to have entered Hanna’s residence and continued the disturbance. Hanna reported he feared for his life and shot Smith with a .380 pistol. Hanna then called 9-1-1 to report the shooting.

Smith was pronounced deceased at the scene by Justice of the Peace, Kathy Mitchell.

Kerrville Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Unit submitted an arrest warrant affidavit to Judge Mitchell charging Hanna with Murder. Judge Mitchell issued the arrest warrant and Hanna was placed in Kerr County Jail in lieu of $75,000 bond.
