[ARCHIVED] Operation Got Drugs

September 11) On September 29, 2012 from 10:00AM to 1:00 PM, the Kerrville Police Department will join forces with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and hundreds of other law enforcement agencies across the Nation to provide a venue for persons who want to dispose of unwanted and unused prescription drugs or over-the-counter medications.
National Take-Back-Day will provide an opportunity for the public to bring in expired, unwanted, or unused medications to law enforcement officers for destruction.
Unused medications improperly disposed of can harm you and your environment. Storing unused or outdated prescriptions creates an opportunity for illicit use. A primary purpose of the program is to prevent abuse, misuse and poisonings.
Citizens can take their unused, unwanted, and over-the-counter medications to the Kerrville Police Department for safe disposal. Citizen may dispose of medication is its original container, but the individual is encouraged to remove any identifying information from the prescription label. Liquid products, such as cough syrup, should remain sealed in their original container.
Intra-venous solutions, medications delivered by injection and syringes will not be accepted due to the potential hazard posed by blood-borne pathogens.
The medications collected will be securely stored by KPD and transferred to the DEA for disposal.
Chief John Young stated, “This is a great opportunity for the community to safely dispose of unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medications. We look forward to continuing this program on an annual basis.”
