The Kerrville Police Department will be hosting the 5th Annual Junior Citizen Police Academy for children 11-14 years of age. The Academy will be held at the Doyle School Community Center (110 West Barnett St) starting June 9 through June 20, 2014. Classes will be held daily from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm.
A range of topics will be covered including Basic Introduction to Criminal Law, Mock Traffic Stops, Evidence Collection, Fingerprinting, Building Searches, and Special Operations Unit. Class time will be divided between instruction and actual "hands on" participation.
This FREE academy is a great experience which motivates young adults to be outstanding citizens through law enforcement education and gives a behind- the-scenes look at a working police department. Applicants must live within Kerr County entering into the 6th, 7th or 8th grade in September 2014, either attending a school within Kerr County, Kerrville ISD or participating in a home-school program. Application packets will be available at the front lobby reception desk at the Kerrville Police Department.
Applicants will be accepted on a first come first served basis. No applications packets will be accepted after 5:00 pm on June 2, and class size will be limited to 24 cadets. Any questions regarding the Academy may be directed to Officer Paul Gonzales (830) 258-1371.
