4. Pleadings in Criminal Actions
   Texas State Law states that a Defendant charged with a misdemeanor for which the maximum possible punishment is by fine only may mail or deliver in person to the Court a plea of “Not Guilty”, “Guilty”, or “Nolo Contendere” in lieu of making said plea in Open Court. Additionally, a defendant who is confined in a penal institution may enter a written plea by U.S. mail, secure electronic or facsimile transmission. You have the right to counsel. This Court does not normally appoint attorneys in fine only offenses.
   
   Therefore, if you wish to enter a plea of “Not Guilty”, please indicate your plea and type of trial desired. You will be contacted by letter regarding a Court setting.
   
   You may pay the fine without a Court appearance by entering a plea of “Guilty” or “Nolo Contendere” on the form below and submit this form and payment to the Court prior to your appearance date. Should you fail to submit this form and the fine, your appearance will be required. Payment of the fine will not be accepted unless this form accompanies the payment.
