City of Kerrville General Election May 2, 2026

The City will hold a hold a general election on May 2, 2026. The election will be for Mayor, Councilmember Place 3 and Councilmember Place 4. Early voting will be held April 20—28, 2026.

Kerrville, Texas (Dec. 15, 2025) – The City will hold a hold a general election on May 2, 2026.  The election will be for Mayor, Councilmember Place 3 and Councilmember Place 4. Early voting will be held April 20—28, 2026.  Both the election and early voting will take place at the Union Church Building, 101 Travis St.  

For individuals interested in running for Mayor, Place 3 or Place 4, a candidate application packet will be available in the City Secretary’s Office, located at City Hall, 701 Main St., beginning Wed., Jan. 7, 2026.  The City Secretary’s Office is open Mon.—Fri., 8 a.m.—5 p.m. (Note: Mon., Jan. 19, 2026 is a Federal Holiday and City Hall will be closed.)

The first day to file an application with the City Secretary is Wed., Jan. 14, 2026. Filing continues through Fri., Feb. 13, 2026 at 5 p.m. A completed City of Kerrville official candidate application will be accepted. 

In accordance with the Kerrville City Charter, any person who is a registered voter of the city and lawfully qualifies may file an application for a place on the ballot. Qualifications are outlined in the Texas Election Code and the Kerrville City Charter

Candidates are elected at large, meaning the City does not designate districts, and Councilmembers assume office without party or partisan designation and serve two-year terms

The candidate’s name and the place for which the candidate is filing must be affixed by the City Secretary at the time the application and petition are issued. The application must include a filing fee of $100; however, the filing fee will be waived if the petition includes the signatures from at least 100 qualified, registered voters of the city.  

Currently, Joe Herring, Jr. serves as mayor; Kent McKinney serves as Councilmember Place 3; and Brenda Hughes serves as Councilmember Place 4.
