Community Services
“Community Policing” is the embodiment of the policing philosophy of the Kerrville Police department. The successful implementation of this philosophy requires a collaborative working relationship on the part of the people of the community and the police to solve community problems and by extension to increase the quality of life. The ultimate goal of this partnership is to foster a community that is a safe and desirable place to live.
The Community Services Section of the Kerrville Police Department is dedicated to enhancing these relationships between the citizens of Kerrville and law enforcement by engaging in various interactive community service projects and initiatives.
This Section is under the direction of a Sergeant with one Crime Prevention Officer who is a vital part of the police department and is responsible for community policing efforts, community education, crime prevention and media relations.
Also serving as the Public Information Officer (PIO), information is provided to the public by issuing news releases, producing public service announcements and coordinating media interviews for the department.
The Community Service Officer hosts the department's biannual Citizen Police Academy and is the liaison to the Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association which facilitates the annual Blue Santa Project.
Other programs and projects offered include:
- Citizen Police Academy
- Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association
- Junior Citizen Police Academy
- Home Security Checks for Vacationers
- Crime Prevention Programs
- Identity Theft and Fraud Awareness
- Home, Auto and Business Theft Prevention
- National Night Out
